Welcome

Ever notice that the world is full of experts who have never actually done what they are "experts" at?

Many a business professor has never actually managed a business. Most business courses stress defining business terms but never actually teach the concepts of running a business.

This blog hopes to teach some of the terms and, at the same time, give some examples and lessons on running a business.

There will also be reviews of books on business listed here. Sometimes companies give me books to review. Regardless of where I get the book to review, I will give my honest opinion. If I was given the book to review I will always disclose that in the review.

I seek to start posting on 02 January 2012. Some of the posts will be recycled from some of my other blogs.

The reader should know that there is no one “Right Way” to conduct business that will apply in all situations. This blog is meant as a place to start. It is hoped that you will perform further research and consult professionals experienced in your particular business before making any important decisions.

National Federation of Independent Business

NFIB-Join and Save today!  Just after my father died in 1987, I worked with the United States Chamber of Commerce as a field agent. My job was to travel around Anderson, Pickens, and Oconee Counties in South Carolina talking with small business owners and managers. This was a real learning experience for me.

One thing I learned then was that most small business owners hated the Small Business Administration (SBA) and loved the National Federation of Independent Business  (N.F.I.B.) .

The SBA was supposed to hold small business owners by the hand and help them deal with government red tape and hopefully obtain small business loans. I have yet to meet a single small business owner who had any positive take-away from the SBA.

The N.F.I.B. is an advocate for small business. Small business owners pay a small fee to be members of the N.F.I.B. . The N.F.I.B. expresses collective small business concerns to our elected officials and helps provide feedback and valuable information to the small business owner.

When the N.F.I.B. talks, congressmen and senators listen. They know that the NFIB represents the voice of the small business. The information provided to small business owners by the NFIB is priceless.
As a way of disclosure, this website/blog is now an affiliate of the NFIB and does receive a referral fee if you join by following links from this site/blog. This does not change my opinion in any way. I would not endorse it if I was not behind it 100%.

Small business owners need all the help they can get these days. We have to deal with so many anti-business policies and laws. We need a strong voice in Washington to help get us through all of this.

Check out the N.F.I.B. today.
