Welcome

Ever notice that the world is full of experts who have never actually done what they are "experts" at?

Many a business professor has never actually managed a business. Most business courses stress defining business terms but never actually teach the concepts of running a business.

This blog hopes to teach some of the terms and, at the same time, give some examples and lessons on running a business.

There will also be reviews of books on business listed here. Sometimes companies give me books to review. Regardless of where I get the book to review, I will give my honest opinion. If I was given the book to review I will always disclose that in the review.

I seek to start posting on 02 January 2012. Some of the posts will be recycled from some of my other blogs.

The reader should know that there is no one “Right Way” to conduct business that will apply in all situations. This blog is meant as a place to start. It is hoped that you will perform further research and consult professionals experienced in your particular business before making any important decisions.

Book Review: Business Plan Bible

We received a free kindle copy of the book Business Plan Bible by Robert Lawrence through a KDP promotional give away a while back.

If you have read as many books on how to write a business plan as we have, you will have gone through countless psychological profiles or self-checks that the author claims is a way to help you assess your desire to start a business.  It seems most business plan books do this.

We feel that this is really a way for the author to squeeze out a little more verbiage so that the reader will feel like they got their money’s worth.

Robert Lawrence, the author of Business Plan Bible, doesn’t do that.  He is smart enough to realize that you have already decided that going into business is right for you or you would not have bought the book.

This is one of the few business plan books on the market that cuts straight to the point.  The reader is given a few points and asked a few questions that allow him to complete the business plan almost painlessly.

Most business plan books present the notion of writing out a SWOT Analysis.  The problem with presenting it the typical way is that the brain hears business jargon and usually shuts down.  However, in Business Plan Bible, Mr. Lawrence has the reader complete a SWOT analysis and they don’t even realize they have done it.  The whole process is painless.

The same is true with a competitive analysis.  You write one without realizing you did it.  You didn’t even need any Novocain to do it.

We give Business Plan Bible a solid five stars.  It is well written and is presented in plain English.  It is so simple even a redneck can do it.

If you are contemplating writing a business plan, stop.  Read Business Plan Bible and actually follow the prompts.  If you do so, your plan will almost write itself for you.

    1. It is a good book for anyone thinking about starting a business. As you have heard, people don't plan to fail, they fail to plan. Have a great day.
